The Merseyside derby is one of the oldest fixtures in English football, first contested on 13th October 1894.
The match was traditionally known as the “friendly derby” because of the number of families split between the two clubs, separated only by Stanley Park.
Everton originally played at Anfield before a dispute with the landlord led them to move to Goodison Park in 1892. Liverpool FC was formed to fill the vacant ground.
