60+ Walking football in the West Midlands
The country’s biggest walking football club is unique in how it staggers the ages of its sessions to ensure the best experience for everyone.
Birmingham Walking FC’s over 60s sessions take place three times a week on the astroturf pitches of the popular Beechcroft Tennis and Multi Sport Club, while additional 65+ sessions are also held every Tuesday and Thursday.
The 60+ events each last for a total of one and a half hours, with a single session on Tuesdays and two sessions every Friday. Note that the first Friday session – starting at 11.30am – is designed especially for those recovering from injury, but other players are still welcome.
All Birmingham over 60/65s walking football sessions include a short warm up, practice ball drills, a one hour game and a post-match cool down. They are also followed by drinks and refreshments in the clubhouse.
The astroturf pitch at Beechcroft is not suitable for football boots, so players are asked to please wear trainers when attending. In addition, new players are also requested to call ahead of turning up to confirm space availability.
Beechcroft also hosts walking football sessions for other age groups, starting at 40+ and rising to over 70s. While all Birmingham Walking FC events are open to both genders, the club also runs a dedicated ladies session on Friday evenings.
